CHACACHACARE

Pack a picnic lunch, swimsuit and come along for a boat ride to Chacachacare, the most westerly offshore island.

LIGHTHOUSE TRAIL
(5 hour tour)

The hike begins at the isthmus between Peruquier and La Tinta bays and climbs gradually northwards 3 kilometers to the lighthouse atop the highest hill (273 m). The most picturesque view of the Bocas islands, as well as Trinidad and Venezuela is from this lighthouse.

A moderate, leisurely pace is the best way to enjoy the scenery and unique natural environment of the island.

SALT WATER POND
(5 hour tour)

The more adventurous hiker can anticipate a walk through history and the possibility of seeing iguanas as large as seven feet. This 1.2 kilometre trail gradually wends its way through undergrowth to a height of 81 metres before descending to the pond.

End your day on one of the islands beautiful beaches.

ECO-EDUCATIONAL TOURS

Eco-Education tours are available on the Chaguaramas mainland as well as the offshore island of Gasparee. A mainland tour includes:

  1. An audiovisual presentation of the Flora, Fauna, History and scenic beauty of Chaguaramas.
  2. A tour of our Interpretive Centre with its nature displays, general information and history of Chaguaramas; live exhibits, (Boa Constrictor, Caiman, etc) and souvenir shop.
  3. A visit to one or more Institutions, or historical tour of this former U.S. Naval Base.
  4. A hike on one of our trails.

Eco-Educational Tours of the mainland take a maximum of 5 hours. A full day tour is recommended, but any section of this tour is available on request. The following trails are highly recommended:

TUCKER WOODS/NORTH POST

A 7 km hike through lush vegetation to a ridge 530 metres above sea level, and down through cultivated forest to the North Coast.

COVIGNE RIVER

The trail begins at a Nutmeg Grove past historical sites, then upriver through a narrow twisting gorge, up a waterfall, and ending at an emerald bathing pool some 15 ft. in diameter.

EDITH FALLS

About 1.5km long, this trail winds its way gently through mixed vegetation, to end at the base of Edith Falls, which is approximately 180 meters high and truly awe-inspiring.
